The “genius” of Mark Zuckerberg? He has monetized the immaterial. Facebook is a marketing plan masquerading as a personality contest.

Profiles allow individuals to create personal “brands” used to lure more and more “Friends” (i.e. consumers)…

1. The more “Friends” you have, the stronger your “brand”.
2. The better your vacation photos, the more alluring your “brand”.
3. The smarter your ironic comments, the cooler your “brand”.
4. The hipper your music, the more cutting edge your “brand”.

Ego is the ultimate consumer platform. And we all know it’s about market share.

Facebook has turned identity into a product. People’s insecurity and desire for attention is limitless…and profitable. Caveat emptor.
